Functions of Meetings

To inform (awareness to understanding) or create a product (lists, plans, decisions, and agreements).

 

The HOD has responsibilities to inform the BOG of constituent issues, concerns, and opinions, and to inform the HOD member’s constituencies of BOG actions, information, and plans.

HOD Outcomes

Process:

  1. Wait to be recognized by the Chair
  2. Consider standing and positioning yourself so people can see and hear you
  3. Speak loudly
  4. State your name and constituent association
  5. Make your point succinctly
  6. Allow others to speak (must be recognized by the Chair first)
  7. Talk to the issue, not about the person(s)
  8. Decisions require motions, seconds, and votes.

State/Define Issue under discussion

  • Take no action, or
  • Proceed with motion
  • Second
  • Discussion
  • Withdraw, amend, table, vote

Recommendation: Relates to general policy to be followed by the organization, or may propose specific action.

 

The BOG will generally approve, disapprove, table, or refer HOD recommendations.
