The CVMA Fall Seminar is an event of the California Veterinary Medical Association (CVMA). At the CVMA’s in-person conferences, the CVMA’s top priority is the safety and welfare of attendees and staff. Accordingly, the CVMA is requiring proof of full COVID-19 vaccination for admission to all of its in-person conferences, including the Fall Seminar.
“Full” vaccination shall consist of (a) two injections of the Moderna vaccine, (b) two injections of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, (c) one injection of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, or (d) the requisite number of injections of any other vaccines approved by the FDA for use against COVID-19 at the time of the event. All such vaccinations must be received at least 14 days prior to the first day of the event. Booster shots are recommended for all attendees, but not required.
Medical and religious exemptions are allowed for attendees, as long as they receive a negative COVID test (Rapid antigen 1 day prior, PCR lab 2 days prior, at-home tests not allowed). In the case of a medical exemption—documentation from a qualified medical provider is required. Submit documentation to staff@cvma.net. Please bring a copy of your approval along with a negative COVID test.
The question has been raised as to whether the CVMA will—as an alternative to full vaccination—permit in-person attendees (who have not secured a recognized medical or religious exemption) to present proof of a negative COVID test. The answer to that question is “no.” The CVMA takes its status as a health care association seriously, and further notes its support of the Global One Health Initiative, the integrative effort of multiple disciplines working locally, nationally, and globally to attain optimal health for people, animals, and the environment. Full vaccination against the COVID-19 virus assists in limiting the risk of infection, and may also help to reduce the rate of transmission. Accordingly, the CVMA believes that insisting on full vaccination for in-person conference attendees sends an important message regarding the CVMA’s commitment to public health.
Proof of vaccination will not be a part of the initial registration process, and CVMA will not collect or maintain any records of an individual’s vaccine status as part of that process.
The CVMA will also follow the requirements and guidelines (such as masking) established by the Renaissance Palm Springs Hotel and local and state health authorities, if any. When registering for the CVMA Fall Seminar, registrants agree to a Personal Responsibility & Liability Waiver. Registrants will receive logistical information via email, including safety and prevention measures, before arrival. Currently, masks are not required but are recommended.
The CVMA reserves the right to review this policy at any time and to make changes as circumstances dictate or allow.
